ABOUT
Mikumi National Park is one of Tanzania's most accessible safari destinations and an important wildlife area in the country's southern circuit. Located near Morogoro, the park is particularly convenient for travelers coming from Dar es Salaam. The heart of Mikumi is the Mkata floodplain, a broad open landscape where elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and other wildlife can often be seen. The open terrain provides excellent conditions for game viewing and photography. Mikumi is also home to predators including lions, while the surrounding woodland and seasonal water areas provide habitat for numerous smaller animals and birds. One of Mikumi's major advantages is accessibility. It can be reached by road from Dar es Salaam and Morogoro, making it particularly suitable for short safaris, weekend trips and travelers who do not have enough time for a long northern safari. The park also offers opportunities for guided walking in designated areas.
