ABOUT
Ruaha National Park is one of Tanzania's great wilderness destinations and the country's second-largest national park, covering approximately 20,226 square kilometres. Located in south-central Tanzania, Ruaha offers vast open landscapes, rugged terrain, woodland and spectacular baobab trees. The Great Ruaha River is one of the park's defining features. During the dry season, wildlife is drawn toward remaining water sources, creating excellent opportunities for game viewing. Ruaha is particularly renowned for its large populations of elephants and buffalo and for predators such as lions, leopards and African wild dogs. The park is also especially interesting for visitors interested in antelope, including greater and lesser kudu. The park's birdlife is equally impressive, with more than 570 recorded species. Ruaha's remote character is one of its greatest attractions, providing a quieter wilderness experience than some of Tanzania's more heavily visited northern destinations.
